Malmequer / Daisy

O "malmequer" é um anel feito à mão que tem um toque vintage dado pelo malmequer branco. O malmequer foi retirado de um vestido dos anos 60/70 que ganhou nova vida, pousando neste anel. As duas medalhas de croché mostram o outro lado do croché, o avesso, sendo uma forma de valorizar esta técnica por inteiro. (à venda brevemente)

The "daisy" is a handmade ring that has a vintage feel given by the white daisy. The marigold was taken from a dress of the year 60/70 that gained a new life by landing in this ring. The two crochet medals show the other side of the crochet, a way to value this technique as a whole. (soon on sale)

Quando era muito nova, as minhas férias eram ocupadas a aprender croché. Coisa que na altura não achava grande piada. Não seria mais interessante andar a brincar com a terra ou a correr até me cansar? Mas hoje agradeço à minha mãe por me ter ensinado. Este é o resultado da minha aprendizagem naquela altura. Várias pegas de tachos que hoje uso a título decorativo. E gosto do resultado!

When I was very young, my holidays were busy learning crochet. Thing at the time that I didn't really like. Would not it be more interesting to play with dirt, run until get tired? But today I thank my mother for teaching me. This is the result of my learning at the time. Various pot handles that now I use for decorative purposes. And I like the result!

Linhas / Yarn

A última aquisição de linhas de algodão. Ainda não sei ao certo o que vou criar com elas, mas acredito no potencial que têm e certamente vão dar peças muito bonitas!

My last acquisition of cotton yarn. I'm not sure what I will create with them, but I believe in the potential they have and will certainly make beautiful pieces!

Com o que restou da camisola vintage, que reaproveitei para fazer os expositores para brincos, decidi fazer as capas de um álbum de fotografias. Coloquei algumas aplicações de feltro preto e cinzento, cosi/bordei com lã vermelha e finalizei com um botão de croché feito à mão.

[I'm back]

With what was left of the vintage sweater, which I've upcycled to make earrings displays, I decided to make the covers of a photo album. I did some applications with black and grey felt, sewed / embroidered with red wool and finished with an handmade crochet button.

A história de um processo criativo / The story of a creative process

Que bela camisola, tão vintage, tão delicada….Era da minha mãe.
What a lovely shirt, so vintage, so delicate…It belonged to my mother.

O que foste fazer a esta bela camisola?! Estou de coração partido (pois, eu também.)
What did you do to that lovely shirt?! It broke my heart (yeah, and mine too)

Estava velha, com manchas, não servindo o seu principal objectivo. Não podia vestir-se. Mas aquele pormenor das flores teria de ser guardado.
It was too old and stained to be dressed. But that detail of the flowers had to be saved.

E depois algo novo nasceu.
And then something new was born

Para além de ser bonito, tem uma outra utilidade, que para mim faz muito sentido.
E é tão simples de fazer!
Besides its beauty, it has another use, which makes much sense to me.
And it’s so easy to do!

Quadradinhos da avó / Granny square

Há muito que me interesso por estes quadradinhos das nossas avós. Nos anos 70 havia imensas peças de roupa feita com estes motivos coloridos. Tendo nascido nessa década, recebi este gene chamado “granny square”. Adoro o colorido e a multiplicidade de formas e feitios que têm. Há uns anos decidi usar os restos de lãs, tecidos e botões, que a minha mãe tinha em casa e fiz estes trabalhos.

I’ ve always been interested in these little granny squares. In the '70s there were lots of clothing made with these colorful motifs. Having been born in that decade, I got this gene called "granny square". I love the colors and the variety of shapes and sizes they have. Some years ago I decided to use the remnants of wool that my mother had at home and did this work.

Agora o desafio é outro e estou a dar início a um projecto que me vai dar algum trabalho, mas acredito que o resultado vai ser surpreendente.

Now I’m facing a different challenge starting a new project that will be hard-working, but I believe the result will be amazing.

Candeeiro de tecto / Ceiling Lamp

Desde pequena que sempre gostei de coisas antigas. Há uns anos recuperei algumas peças de mobiliário e outras, mas depois, por falta de tempo e oportunidade, deixei de o fazer. Voltei a esta minha mania de “restaurar”, à minha maneira, velhas peças como este candeeiro de tecto.


Since I was young I always liked old stuff. Years ago I recovered some pieces of furniture and others, but then, for lack of time and opportunity, I stopped doing it. I returned to my habit of "restore" at my own way old pieces like this ceiling lamp.

botões de outros tempos / vintage buttons

 Adoro tudo o que seja antigo. Talvez tenha sido algo que fui desenvolvendo ao longo do tempo. Os meus pais iam guardando em casa as relíquias que iam ficando dos meus avós...uma máquina de costura, um armário velho, louças com fio dourado etc, etc. Habituei-me a guardar também. Guardo e mais tarde sei que vou dar nova vida àquilo que guardo. Este colar tem pouca qualidade. O fio está amarelado, mas comprei-o numa feira de velharias e antiguidades principalmente por causa dos botões. Adorei o botão verde grande. Dei 2,5€ pelo colar e só por causa daquele botão considero um bom investimento! ;)  E, claro, visitarei mais vezes aquela feira.

I love everything that is vintage. Maybe it was something that I developed over time. My parents were keeping at home the relics from my grandparents ... a sewing machine, an old cupboard, gold line crockery etc, etc.. I used to save too. I save and later I know I'll give a new life to what I have saved. This necklace has low quality. The string is yellowish, but I bought it in a brac and antiques fair mainly because of the buttons. I loved the large green button. I've paid € 2.5 for the entire necklace but what I wanted was that button and I think it was a good investment! :) And of course, I'll visit regularly that fair.

experiência com pedra / stone experience

Uma amiga tinha uma pedra muito bonita e pedi-lha emprestada para fazer uma experiência, pois foi coisa que nunca tinha feito. Então meti mãos-à-obra e crochetei a pedra. Tenho a dizer que não é tarefa fácil e é preciso pensar muito bem no desenho que se quer antes de partir para a produção.

A friend of mine had a very beautiful stone and asked her to borrow it for an experience because it was something I'd never done. Then I  crocheted the stone. I have to say it's not an easy task and before we start to crochet we need to think very carefully about the design we want.

As rosas no Inverno / Roses in winter

O aspecto das rosas no inverno, despidas de pétalas, serviu de inspiração para a elaboração de algumas peças, algumas já concluídas, outras em fase de rascunho.

The appearance of roses in winter, without petals, was the inspiration for the development of jewellery pieces, some already completed, others still in draft stage.

Inspiração / Inspiration

Podemos ir beber inspiração à natureza ou a simples coisas do dia-a-dia que nos rodeiam. Até podemos ir buscar inspiração ao trabalho das outras pessoas, mas nunca copiar. Aliás, quem copia revela uma mente criativa estática. Mesmo que tentasse copiar, não consigo. Nem as minhas peças copio, pois quando parto para a criação nasce sempre algo novo...a peça vai evoluindo ao longo da gestação.

We may be inspired by nature or by the simple things around us everyday. We can draw inspiration of others' work, but we should never copy it. Those who copy reveals a still creative mind . Even when I try to copy, I can not do it. Neither can I copy my pieces, because when I create, something new is always born ... the piece will evolve throughout  its "pregnancy".

Menina prendada ou design maker?

«(...) Em Portugal geralmente não se leva a sério uma pessoa que se dedique a tempo inteiro a fazer o que eu faço. Há respeito por artistas plásticos, escritores, músicos, mas uma pessoa como eu é considerada apenas uma "menina prendada" que se vai "entretendo" com estes devaneios domésticos. Daí que haja tanta relutância em pagar um preço justo (entendido como exorbitante) por peças feitas à mão.
Em Inglaterra há um nome para a minha ocupação: chama-se "designer-maker". (em Portugal sou o quê? não me considero uma "artesã") Há centenas de feiras, lojas e museus que expõem e vendem este tipo de criações. Tricotar ou coser não é visto como uma ocupação de avozinhas, mas sim como trabalhos de gente que se empenha e leva tudo isto a sério. Por outro lado, o nível de qualidade e profissionalismo dos "designers-makers" aqui é notável. »
